Where do the player ratings come from?
Are these ratings based strictly on performance?

Where do the player ratings come from? Are these ratings based strictly on performance? The player ratings came from a file found on the internet and then adjusted by the commissioner of pinoyhoops. Some of the ratings for the players rated less than 58 are still be adjusted. The ratings are based on performance, yes. In the future we will have a section called "Stock Watch", where all the GMs of Dynasty 720 get an equal vote on ratings of players. When the forum is introduced will depend on how smoothly the league is running, if it is running well we may introduce the stock watch later this season, or we may wait until the offseason. But at that time anyone will be able to create a thread making an argument for why they think a players rating is wrong, and what it should be. Then all the GMs that want to vote can vote, and then the player will be rerated to the average of everyone's votes. Thats how most of these were made.

Lol, I was going to choose Milwaukee to bring home a title, then I was like, nah LA would be easier to win with. Now the Bucks have #1 and I have #29, this may be another rebuild. ;)

So, I'm sure everyone here is going to play fair. But, isn't downplaying other team's players in everyone's else's interest? (And, vice versa... Ppl lobby extra hard for their own guys?)
Reason I ask is, I've seen things in Fantasy Football leagues where Veto Alliances form & it can really wreck the game.
So, can we treat this like judging in the Olympics? Eliminate the Top 6 (20%) & Bottom 6 (20%) of scores & then avg. the 18 (60%) of scores in the middle.
Note: I'm also willing to admit that I'm making something out of nothing here & we don't gotta worry at all...

And more gms vote the less bias will show through :)

So how exactly is player performance determined? i.e. Griffin and Wall are both 75, is there a further breakdown in different skill categories?

So how exactly is player performance determined? i.e. Griffin and Wall are both 75, is there a further breakdown in different skill categories? Yes the players have individual ratings based on attributes that are set based on their real life stats.

Are we able to see the individual ratings or should we just assume players will play similar to real life?

Are we able to see the individual ratings or should we just assume players will play similar to real life? Individual ratings are still being adjusted for some minor players. They won't be revealed for ahwile, but yes the players will play as close to real life as possible! Each player has been hand crafted to basketball-reference.com and scouting reports.

Why not use median instead of truncated mean? It's more robust to outliers, and more importantly since the stockwatch votes aren't blind, eliminates strategic voting. With truncated voting, for example, suppose one of my players is voted on. Say 15 people voted before I vote. I can just vote the same (or minus 1 depending on how you truncate the votes) as the highest vote, and manipulate my player to be ranked higher than I actually believe. Hopefully, we're all trustworthy and vote according to our true evaluations, regardless of strategic concerns, but if we can eliminate that through the voting methods why not?
Furthermore, if possible blind voting should be instituted anyway. I think we can succumb to cognitive biases otherwise. For example, suppose someone starts a thread on player A and says he's a 68. I really think he's a 50, but we're so far off that I start to doubt myself. Therefore, hedging that I may be wrong and not wanting to look stupid to everyone else, I vote, say 58. The less extreme vote doesn't accurately portray my true evaluation. In fact, looking briefly at pinoyhoops I was surprised that a lot of stockwatch votes tend to cluster very closely together. And I'm sure other biases arise, considering how in favor of blind voting voting theorists are (I've only briefly studied it).

So there are a couple players I'm interested in who aren't listed at all. I'll probably target them in free agency rather than the draft, but regardless how would it work? Do we have to do a stockwatch thread first to determine their value?
