Current Rating: 62 Come on, Amir Johnson needs an increase. He has been a starter for toronto, and while a bit limited on the offensive end, he can really get it going sometimes (owns multiple 30+ point games in his career), and is usually the best defensive player on his team, and has been for his entire career. He should be rated like the starter he is, which is more than a 62. Averaging 11.7-8.7-1.7-1.7-1.4 per 36, a stat stuffer this guy is, and a true two way player. To properly give him the defense he deserves, he needs an increase. Please submit your arguments as to why Amir Johnson should or should not be increased in the thread below, try not to mention your vote outright. You will submit your vote in a secret ballot box that Allan Houston will post a link to in the next post :)

Eh, I don't much if any increase is warranted. 60+ is a starter, so say the top 30 PFs in the league deserve above a 60. I actually think Amir is in that range, but towards the lower end, like around 25. Considering that ratings should get less dense as they get towards the extremes (normal distribution), I think Amir fits well in the low 60s.

I just wanted to say I like this new system you have implemented for voting on players,

I can't find the shit anywhere anymore, but if I remember correctly, 60-64 is considered role player/spot starter. 65-69 is a solid starter. 70-74 is stars (not necessarily all-stars), and 75+ is generational talents. You might be undervaluing some players if you're calling a 60 a starter without the full "Role player/spot starter" implication.

Yea, I couldn't find it either. I know 80+ was generational talent, and 50+ was bench players, so about top 330 players. If we look at real one-number statistical distributions, though, my assertions follow pretty closely. For example, I made a linear map of the Hoops Nerd ratings of players such that the best player is about an 85 and the 330th is about a 50, give or take. That produces a distribution with 2 players above 80 (generational talents), 23 players rounding to 70+ (there are 24 all-stars IRL, so a pretty close match), 154 players ranked 60+ (there are 150 starters in the NBA, again surprising match).
