Current rating 64
Hes putting up 11.9 PPG 8.4 RPG In only 20 minutes per game. His per 36 stats are 20 and 14. Not to mention hes 6th in the whole NBA in FG%. Its unfortunate hes coming off the bench because hed start for many teams. I think he deserves to be higher than a 64

just want to set a reminder to not fall in to the per 36 minute trap, there is a reason he only plays 20 minutes and that is because he is a liability on defence....thats actually putting it nicely, he is atrocious defensively

Kanters improved defensively this season, not stat wise but he looks better. especially if Kanter plays at the 4 for me then he wont be such a liability defensively. Hed be playng 30 mins a night for like 1/3 nba teams.

Think about this: Westbrook, Durant, and Ibaka (the Thunder's "Big 3") play 34.5, 35.2, and 32.7 minutes per game respectively, a combined 102.4 minutes, or 42.67% of the available playing time on the floor. Westbrook and Durant by themselves carry high enough usage rates on offense that the other three spots on the floor, almost by necessity, must be defensive players since any extra offense is practically unnecessary. The Thunder have a center that plays defense very well in Steven Adams, so the vast majority of the minutes that Westbrook and Durant share on the floor are best served when coupled with Adams' rim protection. As a result, Adams gets 23 minutes per game. But to share the floor so evenly (23 vs 20) at center implies that the line between starting Kanter and starting Adams is much smaller than would be expected if the Thunder's philosophy was only "have a defensive center on the floor while Westbrook and Durant are playing." Kanter would easily get 30 plus minutes on this Thunder team, despite his defense, if Adams wasn't such a strong defensive player on a team that needs defense from his position far more than offense.

On top of this, the biggest reason that Kanter is in the second unit is that his offensive production will be more useful AND more effective in a 2nd unit. If it didn't make more sense to bring him off the bench on a team loaded with offensive superstars, he would be getting his minutes.
Also, the fact that Enes Kanter is
1) #2 in Offensive Real Plus-Minus among Centers, #55 in Offensive Real Plus-Minus among all NBA players 2) A net positive in Real Plus-Minus for the first time in his career (0.17 [15-16] vs -2.72 [14-15] and -4.63 [13-14])
Both of these things show a clear improvement, both offensively and defensively, by Kanter. Since joining the Thunder they have helped him become a better overall player and it should be reflected in his ratings.
On the year, his Offensive Rating is 122 and his Defensive Rating is 105, both respectable numbers for a center. I don't necessarily condone looking at his Per 36 numbers, because obviously he isn't getting starters minutes at the moment, but the fact remains that we withheld a higher rating from Kanter in his stockwatch last season based on the condition that his defense held him back from being better. The fact that he is showing clear and marked improvement on defense means we can no longer keep him at the rating we chose based on previously abysmal defense.
