Kobe was a great defender at one point, though was given credit for being a great defender for way too long

Let's make the case for the fact that Kawhi should be vaulting into top 10 status.
- Spurs are more loaded with talent than ever (Duncan still playing great, Tony P having a mini-renaissance, Manu still doing manu things, LMA and David West coming in and still need touches). Kawhi only raised his minutes by 2.3/game and his usage rate by 2.1%! yet his stats have raised like he's getting 6 extra minutes and raised his usage much higher than 2.1%. How do you add 5.4 points per game with such small increases in minutes and usage?
- Kawhi is still hands down one of the best defensive players in the league - moreso now than he was last year when he won DPOY. 91 Defensive Rating, 3.2 DBPM, 1.7 Defensive Win Shares through 19 games ... (let me pause from this point and talk about the fact that his WS/48 is at a staggering .303 right now. WHAT? Among players with a decent amount of minutes, his .303 is second only to Steph Curry's .384) ... As well as a Small Forward leading, top 10 overall in the league, 3.36 DRPM.
- Couple that with his improved offense and his overall RPM is sitting at #5 in the league at 7.42.
- The PERCENTAGES THO. 51.5% from the field, 50% FROM THREE, a career best 86.6% from the line.
Sure, our sample size from this season is small, but Kawhi has been trending this way since late last season. Why bother using our league vote to increase him if we're not going to actually honor where he's gotten as opposed to where we think it's safe to put him? The dude has been playing, like, 10 points better than the 70 that we currently have him at.

I didn't call him 80+, for the record. Just that he's at or near top 10 in the league, which is high 70s.

If you want to rate him an 80 because he shoots 50% from 3 through one month... Nah. This is the whole reason why you shouldn't stock watch people based on this years stats... they are a small sample size. He was TRENDING towards the numbers he is doing today, but we both know that these numbers will also trend DOWN over the next few months. So its a bit of a poison pill, do we reward people for making stock watch threads at the peak of the players ability? Ala, starting for injury, or small sample size? Or do we rate them based on where we think they will be at the end of the year? I'm for the latter.

Or do we rate them based on where we think they will be at the end of the year? I'm for the latter. That was partly my point... I guess my case was just more convincing and not enough sarcasm... haha. We just freaking made a rule that gives us (the league) one vote on a player, why the hell are so many people using it to make new threads for players who have only had any justification for upgrade after the first ~20 games into this season. I think Kawhi and Paul George are two of the best players in the league, but neither one did enough last year to justify higher ratings than they currently have, and haven't played enough this season to justify raising them based on this season's play. Do I think Kawhi is playing like a top 10 player right now? Fuck yes. Do I think Paul George is playing like a top 5 player right now? Damn right. Should either of them have a thread yet? No.

Based on...? What ten players in the league have a larger two-way impact? Arguably zero. He's a top 3 defender and a top 15 offensive player.
