Memphis Grizzlies
SG 64 Kobe Bryant $25,000,000
BOS 2016 1st
for
New Orleans Pelicans
SG 65 Eric Gordon $8,000,000 $8,000,000 $7,500,000 $7,000,000 7,000,000
PF 73 Al Jefferson $13,500,000
I accept. I signed Eric Gordon, Amir, Markieff and KJ all to trade them after the moratorium was up. Markieff is gone -- now goes these other two. They are both very valuable pieces: Eric Gordon is a top 5 catch and shoot 3 pointer in the league, something Memphis badly needs, while being on a fantastic contract for his age. Big Al is out for a few weeks, but he is a perfect fit in Memphis, and Logan has expressed interest in retaining him long term. With Big Al, TT, Kristaps, and Zeller he has one of the best frontcourts in the league, and will almost certainly be a playoff team in the West.
I accept because Big Al + Eric Gordon is going to keep winning games and not letting me get Ben Simmons! Even though I am easily giving up the most value here (Boston while dissapointing won't have a pick better than 10th-15th), but it will make itself up by letting me tank. Also I can start Okafor now!

I accept. I need a center and this seems like a nice potential signing. Eric Gordon would have been mine if I had more money this offseason so that's a nice fit.

Pass. Not a great trade for Memphis. FTR, this means "Accept" right? Also, it IS a good trade for Memphis! Remember a free agent is much more likely to resign with a team than leave, especially if the offer is similar. With Eric Gordon, Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps, Tristan Thompson, Big Al his team is literally just a PG away from being a top 4 team in the West. He can wait for lavine or make another move... but it is far from a bad trade for memphis.

yeah it means accept, and i get that which is why i didnt reject. In my opinion a lot of those guys are on their way down. All im saying is he might want to be careful and not do what the irl pelicans did once they got davis.

Sure would have been cool if the TC had used this view point when I was trying to trade for Cousins last season. :P I'll accept. I really don't like the trade much for Memphis, but it's a calculated risk that holds (relatively) minimal consequences. Kobe is expiring and declining and retiring, so trading him = a definite positive. Boston is currently bad, but they have plenty of talent and are also currently missing Jonas (their only decent center), so the team looks a lot worse than they should. It is very reasonable to assume the Celtics finish the season stronger than they're currently playing, so Billy isn't wrong to point out that the pick may not end up very high in the lottery. Obviously any lottery pick is important, but I don't think it's completely, 100% out of reason to trade a mediocre pick straight up for Eric Gordon if you need a shooting guard. Getting whatever you can out of Al this season, and an improved chance at resigning him come the offseason, getting Eric Gordon for a relatively meh pick, and getting rid of Kobe... definitely not a terrible outcome for the Griz.

I think the reason for that was because it wasnt really established at that point -- but I think the PA's as a group kind of decided that this offseason that is how we would handle it from now on.

That was my entire argument in the first place. The only difference between Milt trade raping me and that trade being rejectable by lack of value on my end was the preconceived notion that Marc Gasol was virtually guaranteed to not return to Minnesota, which was and is stupid. I still think that trade should have been passed. Especially with how freaking good Draymond Green has looked this season.

Not to revisit it, but it's different when youre trading a mid round 1st for an expiring star, and when youre trading demarcus cousins for one. But youre right maybe it would've turned out differently. Draymond certainly is lighting it up!
