Cap Holds
Players will have Cap Holds, to allow teams to get the MLE that they have coming to them.
Cap Holds will be in place until the regular season.
RFA and Cap Holds
Three scenarios can play out:
1) The RFA signs the QO. Then there's no bookkeeping difference between the cap hold and the contract.
2) The RFA re-signs with his team. Then the QO stays on as a hold until the end of the off-season.
3) The RFA signs an offer sheet elsewhere. Then the QO comes off the books for the former team, and the offer sheet contract hits the books on the other team. Once the former team matches, the new contract moves over to their books.
Mid-Level Exception:
A team can use up to one of the following exceptions each season:
"Taxpayer" Mid-Level Exception: If the sum of your salaries and cap holds is >=130% of the salary cap, you get an exception worth 5% of the cap which allows you to exceed the cap. Contracts signed with the Taxpayer MLE are restricted to 3 years in length.
"Full" Mid-Level Exception: If the sum of your salaries and cap holds is <130% of the salary cap, you get an exception worth 8.5% of the cap which allows you to exceed the cap. Contracts signed with the Full MLE are restricted to 4 years in length.
Both versions count against your cap as a cap hold unless explicitly rescinded. If your total salary, including all cap holds, is below the salary cap at the start of the new season or goes below it at any point, then you lose that exception. In it's place, you will get the following:
Room Mid-Level Exception: If you sign a player using cap-space, you get an exception worth 4.5% of the cap which allows you to exceed the cap. The exception does not against your cap. Contracts signed with the Room MLE are restricted to 2 years in length.
You may not combine any of these exceptions with cap space or another exception.
All versions may be split and given to multiple players.
The available MLE amount to each team will be updated on the roster sheet.
Any question regarding the MLE should be directed to me and not Billy King
First year salaries:
Room MLE: $4,584,105
Taxpayer MLE: $5,093,450
Full MLE: $8,658,865
Players will have Cap Holds, to allow teams to get the MLE that they have coming to them.
- Cap Hold for Restricted Free Agents; their qualifying offer
- Cap Hold for 1st Round Rookies; their 1st year salary
- Team & Player Options now act as a Cap Hold
- Players with Bird Rights will now have cap holds of 125% their previous years salary or their maximum eligible salary, whichever is lower, unless they are RFA.
Cap Holds will be in place until the regular season.
