I accept. I trade an expiring 59 SG, who's already been stockwatched so 59 is his rating for the duration of his contract, for a 66 SG, who I think deserves that rating. That makes my team, gunning for the championship, unequivocally better this season at the cost of a draft pick.
That 1st rd pick isn't a huge asset. I have the top rated talent in the East already, and this trade makes my team better. Expectation puts that pick in the high 20s. Worst case is maybe pick 20? Unless KD breaks his foot tomorrow, hence the lotto protection. Looking ahead, (very prematurely) I think I would be drafting someone like Caris LeVert. That's a cost I'll give up. And 2nds are pretty minimal value to add in as a kicker.
As for the future, there are two scenarios.
1 is that the 38 year old Ginobili retires after this season, making this effectively a swap of expirings. That makes my offseason the same scenario as it has been all season, and which I've already prepared for. And I'm happy with the projected scenario there.
2 is that he doesn't retire. Then I actually have an SG next season (Kobe's retiring, Roberson probably will decline the PO when a min contract is worth more), and I don't have to worry so much about a shallow SG market.

Allan, wasn't there a second rounder in this trade, too?

I accept. Not often you get two draft picks for downgrading an old dude. Gotta take advantage.

I accept.. at first I was leaning on rejectinh it because giving up a first rd pick and having Manu that may retire next season is not a good trade, however he will be a good addition to the knicks since they lack depth at that position and they are contending..

I guess it doesn't matter, but this seems like way too much to give up for Manu
