Not a fan of this for Orlando (including that other trade in my analysis as well)... Essentially what we're seeing is a team that had an extremely stable and well-built future get turned into a win-now team, which honestly is fine... except it's hard to say it'll be anywhere near successful.
So the things I for sure want to be able to see Orlando keep regardless of their personnel choices are picks and cap space (to make sure that an instant rebuild plan is viable). Trading these dead money contracts for guys with 2 years means you're specifically committing to a two-year window of contention without cap room, beyond which you might tank, where your team prior to taking over was primed to build itself up naturally through time and stock watches until you had a 3-5 year window to contend at worst. Sucks to see that kind of thing take place, and while I hesitate to call it team killing, I do think it plays a big part in destabilizing the future of the franchise without adequately building up your immediately chance of success.
I'll accept, but my finger's are crossed that this trade improves Orlando more in the short term than I'm imagining.
