Suns Send: David West 67 $3,513,105 - $3,864,416 - $4,215,726 ATL 2016 2nd PHX 2019 2nd Total salary sent: $3,513,105 Team salary after trade: $79,393,776 Pistons send: Evan Fournier 64 $2,288,204 - $3,278,997Jimmer Fredette 50 $700,000 Total salary sent: $2,988,204 Team salary after trade: $96,871,166 I accept. I am looking for a younger SG and Fournier fits the bill. I'm not sure what to expect to pay him next year but fingers crossed for a reasonable price. Jimmer is just there to get the salary within the 125% rule. Also happy West can go to a team that can use his nice contract for the future. It was very likely that West would opt out of his contract if he stayed with us as we don't plan to compete next year. Go get West a ring, Detroit! Stan Van Gundy

I like this trade for both parties.
Fournier showed SOME growth this year, but also had some hardcore months of suckage peppered in there too. It will be interesting how much he gets offered this offseason in free agency, I don't think I would pay him a whole lot over 10M, so that's a risk taken on by Timberlake.
At the same time, David West has played incredible this year. If we were to stock watch him down 2-4 points, it would all just come off of his endurance. He has been having a career year when on the court. That ATL 2nd is gold as well.
Great trade guys. Love trades like this.

I... honestly don't know what to think about this trade. I love David West, and I think he'll undoubtedly be a useful piece in a potential championship puzzle, but the man is old, the contract I signed him to will almost certainly see him exploring his options in free agency, and Evan Fournier still has 5 more years of team control to go with his age (nearly 24) and a career year across the board statistically (maybe he didn't improve like he could have, but he definitely improved!). Any young guy on the Magic roster is going to get choked a little bit for production just because of how many other young guys are there that need touches to develop as well. Fournier on a different team might be dropping 20 points a night on slightly diminished percentages.
I like to think this trade is fair and even, but I think it could legitimately be harmful to Detroit's future when so many of their other wing options are up for free agency this summer and no where near enough cap space available to keep them all around. Signing Fournier long term could end up being the lone bright spot in the beginning of a Detroit rebuild, and instead he's swapping that young player for another old guy on the equivalent of an expiring. Could potentially be harmful to the franchise. I'm going to reject.

lol yourself. Our job is to make sure no franchise makes trades that diminish their ability to field competitive teams for extended periods of time. A stock-watched David West and a couple 2nd rounders don't make up for losing a good young guy like Fournier when Detroit only has 7 players returning next year, and only 3 starting caliber players among those 7. If his team doesn't win a championship this year and his free agents bolt for greener pastures, he'll be stuck in a rebuild with only John Wall and some picks. Not the worst place to be, but it certainly isn't something that I think could help his team more than it could hurt them.

yeah everything that you said speaks to the state of his team, not how bad this trade is. his team isn't in good shape, but this trade isn't going to be the reason why

yeah everything that you said speaks to the state of his team, not how bad this trade is. his team isn't in good shape, but this trade isn't going to be the reason why Fournier has value and if he's going to be traded in a vain attempt to win another title, Stan should at least get something worthwhile in return. Just because his team is not built for the future doesn't mean we should be fine with accepting any bad trade that he takes part in. That's just laziness/careless TC participation.
