The Cleveland Cavaliers accept this trade. This trade is about potential. And we feel that the potential number 2 pick in this years draft has more potential than either of the 3 players we are trading away, as well as the player available at number 23.
This draft is a top heavy draft. And we feel that there are a few transcending players available at the top, once in a generation players. And while Rodney Hood and Clint Capela are formidable players, we do not see them having the potential that the number 2 overall pick could possibly have.

I accept.
Getting two top 10 players from the '14 draft who are proven starters, under 24, and under contract for a long time. I get a flyer on Young who has the potential to breakout this year, and 23 which is another young asset under contract that can grow with my team. I needed players as the cupboard was completely bare. I now have 40% of my starting lineup set for years to come.

danmvin my opinion this is a pretty shit trade. Pete as soon as you saw keiths reasoning you should have ran. hood and Capela are great but dont have the near potential than the person availible with 2. especially with your roster capela and hood arent really pieces you build around, at best they are the 3rd best players on a champsionship team, while the guy at 2 could be the number 1. I definitely get your reasoning that you want 2 guys instead of one, but I dont think its quiet near the return that the 2nd pick deserves.

Everyone with #2 pick "potential" boners need to keep in mind the last 5 years of #2 picks. Derrick Williams, Mkg, oladipo, Jabari Parker, deangelo Russell. There is potential there but nobody really knows until they play in the league. I just got a 22 and 23 year old starter I can control for 5 + years + additional assets.

Just want to add 1 argument:
Wizards looks to be in an early rebuilding stage and in order to rebuild he needs time and players with good potential of course. Without judging potential, the players Wizards is getting are not ideal in terms of contract length (2 years before becoming restricted).

Kong they got drafted two years ago. I could potentially have them for seven years before they are ufas. You are saying I shouldn't go after players two years in to their rookie contract? If so, that is laughable.

Personally I don't think the chance that Hood/Capela are starters 5 years from now is much higher than that Ingram is good...
And I really like HC.

Not saying you shouldn't go after players two years in to their rookie contract but if I was in a very early rebuilding stage I would rather have #2 draft pick.
In 2 seasons, you will be able to re-sign them but you might need to overpay for them and if that happens you wont be able to use your cap space elsewhere.

I think considering the risk with Ingram is important, but you act like Hood and Capela are sure things and that's far from the truth. You think Ingram is a risk to bust, but Capela has started only 35 games in his career, and it's tough playing center at his height. The guy didnt make a shot past 3 feet until this year, and he shoots 30% from 3 to 10. Never taken a shot past 10 feet, it really limits him from playing the 4. Hood definitely has a better chance of sticking as a starter, but he seems more like the good 6th man type... Ingram could be MVP.

Capela is raw and he was playing d-league a year ago but he made some serious strides this year at 22 and made the Rockets have zero thoughts about losing Dwight. GSW is about to win the ship w Draymond playing C more than anyone and we are worried about a 6-10 240 guy being too small? Deandre was 1st team all nba. How is his shot? Bigs in the NBA today need to run, rebound, and defend. Ingram could be MVP but again so could have the guys I listed earlier. Could...

I look at it this way, Hood and Capela are both starters on playoff teams IRL.
Capela will have the Center job all to him self in Houston. If Mike D is the coach there, he fits that system perfectly. He is an explosive athlete and will be able to run the floor.
Rodney Hood has shown great potential. All-Star level perhaps.
You know what you are getting with these two players. Both are solid starters. You don't have that with Ingram. Ingram is SOOOO raw, and he honestly isn't who I want to take at 2.
It is hard to judge a trade like this because you (I) are trading for an unknown asset. Yes the number 2 pick looks good to have on paper for a rebuilding team. But it is the number 2 pick in this draft where everyone has high bust potential besides Simmons.
So instead of getting a potential player that could bust, and has a high chance to bust, Pete has decided to trade for 2 starters on rookie deals, with BR's. That's 7 years before he has to worry about UFA with these guys.
And as someone pointed out, yeah Pete may have to spend some cash to retain the rights of these players, but at some point, everyone has to spend the money to become good. And the cap is going up and up so it isn't like spending 12 million a year on Capela will be a bad thing, when you consider the cap.
I dk. I think it is a fair trade when you consider who that number 2 pick is. Everyone over hypes the shit out of these picks, but I'd guarantee a year from now no one would trade Hood and Capela for Ingram, let alone a first and James Young, who does have the potential to make an impcat this year if the Celtics make these moves.

Yeah if you'd rather have Hood or Capela over someone like Oladipo, Parker, or Russell then I guess my argument is lost on you. I would take Hood and Capela over those guys. Oladipo looks like a 6th man right now. And I was hugely into the Magic games this year. He can't play on the floor with Payton and Hezonja, who are two clearly better players. Parker has always been "meh" to me. He is an undersized PF who can't play defense. Rodney Hood carried the Jazz offense down the stretch. DeAngelo Russel is a dousche. And that matters because of how that translates to his chemistry with teammates on the court. Clint Capela is going to break out this season, and Hood will put up All-Star numbers. Hood just doesn't have a place on my team, and I want to draft Bender.

I accept, still think its a bad trade for the qwiz and they should be targeting top level potential players, but his reasoning doesnt allow me to veto because he acknowledges what he is getting himself into.

I think Hood and Capela are 5th and 10th in their respective drafts AT WORST. Young still holds value of a 17 pick where he went. Would this be questioned if it was 2 for 5, 10, 17, & 23?

I've been holding off on this one. Hard to tell exactly how this pans out or how to judge the value of these top picks that are being traded. But I'm going to play it safe and reject. I hate to interfere with Pete's plans as he believes he's making the right move, but I think there is potential for a better offer (especially compared to what I heard Pete was asking for from other owners). I think if Hezonja was included in this or someone a bit more interesting with more upside/potential I would be more comfortable with accepting.
