SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Coming off a short and forgettable postseason run, the Utah Jazz were poised to build onto their strong roster this off-season. General Manager DJ Jazzy Jeff wasted no time before making his first major move. The Jazz saw an open opportunity to seize the #2 pick in the 2016 NBA Rookie Draft and assembled a blockbuster trade that sent midseason acquisition and 6th man, Harrison Barnes, along with last year's 1st round draft pick, Frank Kaminsky and Kyle Anderson out of town. The Jazz acquired the rights to the Washington Wizards' 1st round draft pick, Brandon Ingram, a 6'9" Forward out of Duke to replace Barnes in to 6th man role and anchor the team's bench unit in his first NBA season.
"I'm excited to play behind Paul George, a player who I feel is underappreciated in this league. I'm going to be a sponge in my first season here in Utah, I want to learn from one of the greats and know what it's like to win at the highest level", said Ingram after learning about the trade to Utah.
"I was shocked when I heard about the trade," George said. "I think this kid has what it takes to dominate in this league and to bring this team to the next level. He is going to fit right in to our system and provide a lot of production for us."
"We knew Barnes was going to be expensive to bring back and we are determined to bounce back from our early and unexpected exit last year. I know we have a better team than that and this was a move that will help us with depth next year and give us a lot of long-term flexibility," DJ Jazzy Jeff explained. "We did our homework on this kid and we obviously felt that we couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring him to the Vivint Smart Home Arena next year."
When asked what he thought about the move, Utah Jazz legend, Jerry Sloan said, "I hope I live to see the kid transform into KD and fuck up some of these fagbois. Boi needs to beef up tho, looks like he's got the AIDS".
