Last season was a very disappointing one for the Indiana Pacers. Losing the core of Lowry, Big Al and Millsap is a huge mistake admitted by Reggie Miller himself. Trading Lowry for Conley to save cap space was very hard cause we thought that we will get Kawhi or Lebrone last free agency, Miller said.
Instead we got Marc Gasol and resigned Danny and Jeff Green and. The pairing of Gasol and Jefferson didn't work out so we have to traded Jefferson with Markieff Morris. Gasol and Conley got injured so we also traded them for Deandre Jordan and Jeff Teague. Although the team went on winning games enough for a playoff spot, we loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in a game 7 match.
We felt like something is missing in the team. A leader that will guide this team, said Miller. Losing in the 1st round of playoffs is hard after almost advancing to the NBA Finals last 2014/15 season but that is all in the past as the new look Pacers looking to bounce back this season. With the starters and the bench intact, the Pacers are looking to sign a superstar in the Free Agency with their current cap space they could sign a max to a player.
First they traded away a prolific shooter and a veteran Kyle Korver and CJ Wilcox for the 27th pick to save cap space and to draft a certain player that the Pacers believes will be a good player in the future. They will do everything to be able to successfully sign their guy at the free agency to be able to contend again this season.
Although the current roster is good with DeAndre Jordan at the Center, who is doing a good job protecting the rim and rebounding, Markieff Morris who's a skilled forward that can stretch the floor with his 3 pt range, Jeff Green who's very versatile and could play either the 3 or 4, Danny Green, a very reliable spot up shooter and a great defender and Jeff Teague, a very reliable point guard that can score and make play.
The bench also have depth with Kelly Olynyk that can also stretch the floor and a good passer, Josh Smith with his athleticism and versatility that can play 3 and 4 spot and Wesley Johnson. Still Reggie Miller thinks that this team is not yet a contender without a leader.
The future lies within the Free Agency for the Indiana Pacers. If they will be able to sign a big free agent even if they don't teams should watch out for this team as they will be still a threat this year.
