Lurking behind the drastic spike in the salary cap (from 70M to a reported 94.143M) is a wave of some massive contracts being offered, whether or not the players fully deserve the money.
Among the rumors that have come my way, one anonymous front office executive acknowledged a plan to extend a max offer sheet to Phoenix Suns Restricted Free Agent Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Unnamed sources confirm the rumor, and go on to tell me that the money won't just be flowing to MKG, but that a slew of other Restricted and Unrestricted Free Agents will most likely get some insane contract offers in the coming weeks.
Sources close to the GM of a wannabe contender from the Western Conference quoted him as saying "Try to keep your butthole from puckering cause a lot of RFAs are gonna get bigger offers than people anticipated before the real life NBA deals started coming out." over dinner on Tuesday night.
Two things are for sure, the cap spike is going to change the landscape of the league, and anybody with Restricted Free Agents had better be prepared to match some offer sheets in excess of 100M.
