Boston Trades: PF 68 Dirk Nowitzki $8,692,184 $8,692,184
Milwaukee Trades: F 65 Thaddeus Young $8,250,000 $9,000,000 $9,750,000 10,500,000 FC 60 Donatas Montiejunas $3,278,997 SG 58 Bojan Bogdanovic $3,573,020 $4,466,275 $15,102,017
As GM of the Boston Celtics, I accept this trade.
The GM Dirk Nowitzki came to me and said he wanted to bring the player Dirk Nowitkzi to his team. It was getting kinda hard for him to run the Milwaukee Bucks while playing for the Boston Celtics. This trade also allows him to go back to the team who initially drafted him with the 9th pick in the 1998 draft. Dirk will be able to slide in beside Derrick Favors and Rudy Gay in the front court. Dirk will be able to play the stretch 4 where he can showcase his shooting ability along side Favors who plays more inside.
Coming to Boston are Thaddeus Young, a small forward who I do not currently have. I also get two young foreign players. Bringing in Montiejunas allows me to add a back up center. Bogdanovis allows me to add a backup shooting guard. Montiejunas has been barried on the Rockets bench. Bogdanovic is playing for the Nets, who let's face it, are not that good. These three guys add up to the value of the future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki.

I accept. Dirk is a great teammate and can be a good mentor to my boy Favors. Altho he is on his last contract, im pretty sure he wouldnt mind sticking it out for another year or two if we can make a deep playoff run. How do we do that? We focus in signing Durant since our Big men are already complete. MIL will be title contenders and will have a good landing spots for other players. Who knows maybe we can get good veterans for a discount too if they were to play with contenders.
This will be my last push for the Durant dream. Im sorry if I keep taking risks maybe thats just how I approach the game, but one thing is for sure Im sticking it out for the good and the bad :D cheers!

Even with Rudy/Dirk/Favors, and a miraculous top tier Free Agent signing (let's say, Conley), this team is still short a starting-caliber Shooting guard and there is a lot of good depth being shipped out in this trade so we're looking at:
Conley/?/Gay/Dirk/Favors Livingston/Shabazz/Ariza/?/Biyombo.
compared to a potential Seattle line up of
Lowry/Kawhi/Durant/LeBron/Dieng Barea/Allen/?/?/Pachulia
Both have some holes, but free agents will be flocking to Seattle and running away from the franchise that traded AD for kibbles and bits. A dream of serious contender status isn't worth throwing away your future, and trading three younger players on long/RFA contracts for one year of nearing-40 Dirk is just a nightmare unless you have established depth and feel 100% certain you could at least make the conference finals. The Bucks aren't there.
Reject.

Im planning Jennings instead of conley.
Potentially : Jennings/Gay/ Durant/Dirk/Favors Calderon/Livingston/Ariza/Casspi/Biyombo
But your right, someone traded AD which might give my franchise a bad rep. Anyway this might be the last trade that Ill do for a while so really sorry for bothering you guys.

danm this is rape, all that for 1 year of dirk? gross Doesnt look as bad when I dont have plans on keeping Donatas. He just have a high rating because of his hgt factor but still not a good rebounder. Atleast Dirk have one in the sim.

There are plenty of teams better than you right now and Durant is going to value those teams way more. You should be more realistic and focus on other guys, just my 2 cents since you are new

We keep things realistic in free agency, there are free agents more likely to sign with some teams than others because of team context, throwing away your future for a 1% chance of signing KD is not a good move for anyone. Now if you had a good team already and were throwing away a rookie for Dirk it would be different, make sense?

Though this trade is illegal because Donatas can't be traded right now. I was curious about this... Since we allow trades after the deadline on RFA's, not sure it makes sense to make them untradable during RFA since the same concept applies - the QO is automatic, so the player is guaranteed to come back to you if you have the space to sign him. Trading that right of first refusal after the deadline through the start of RFA really isn't any different in essence from trading the right of first refusal during the RFA period. And once the contracts are signed, they won't be tradable until a ways into the season, so I could see some merit in allowing trading for a RFA during RFA period to make sure you get the player you want and it doesn't effect fairness anymore today than it did two days ago.

I don't like the idea of RFAs being traded when we've had player agents already fielding offers for them. It creates situations where people involved in the trade could have unequal knowledge, from the people doing the trading, to the guy commenting on the trade, to the TCs that are voting. I don't like the idea of allowing RFA trading during this period for some GMs and not others (due to people being player agents), so the only regulation here that applies to everyone equally is no trading allowed of RFAs after bidding has started.

Good point, this is fixable if no TC members are among the PAs by just disallowing player agents from trading RFAs, but until we could get there, best to just make start of RFA the deadline for RFA deals.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask/if this is bad form, but here goes:
I agree this trade is unfair, but I'd like to calibrate what is considered fair so that I don't spend hours planning and negotiating trades that seem fair to me that will just get cancelled.
I would think the ~ fair trade here is just Young for Dirk straight up. Dirk is still a little bit better but won't be soon, maybe even in 2018. Young is on what seems to me to be a pretty fair contract, probably was a slight overpay under the old max, maybe a slight deal under the new max.
This still would be a win now move for the Bucks though, and I'm a little bit alarmed by the comparison to Seattle as a way to dismiss an attempt to try to win now. I mean, Seattle is a RL Golden State level all time super team, no? It seems to me like if the Bucks want to try to run out something like a Hill/Batum (free agent)/Gay/Favors/Dirk/Ariza/Livingston/Biyombo top 8. that would be a top 6 team in the league. He would still have 5 first round draft picks in the next few years. It seems to me like that's a pretty fun place to be, with a playoff run and a bright future. I mean, there are 30 teams we can't all have the Seattle Superteam. Am I off base? I just want to understand.

I personally am going to be a bit more lenient if I feel like a team is trying to go for it. If it were Young for Dirk and his reasoning was that he really wanted to make a big push this year, then I'd probably accept that.

Yeah, I have no problem with win now trades, we've seen plenty and I've accepted plenty. The issue here is that, when a team or teams at the top are unrealistically good, the "win now" move has to have some realistic foundations. Saying "Dirk will help me get KD so this trade will be worth it" completely ignores the very real possibility that multiple teams in front of Milwaukee are vying for Durant's services and not all of them are going to be "win this year or bust." KD won't chose a team whose best player isn't in his prime and whose second best player is probably year away from retirement over a team that has comparable or better talent locked up long term with bird rights. If KD doesn't choose Milwaukee, no free agent can save them from this loss of depth.
In other words, win now trades are 100% fine, but for me to accept one, I have to see the tangible benefits outweighing the inherent risks. If a team already had KD and thinks they're 1 Dirk away from a conference finals/championship, by all means make this trade - you could agree to the terms of the deal without posting before UFA and pitch Durant on the idea that this trade is an available option for taking the team to the next level without actually pulling the trigger and you wouldn't be resigning yourself to dumping a good amount of long term value for a one year rental of Dirk that isn't guaranteed to make you contender.
