Sources close to Golden State's financial offices confirmed that after matching for both Lillard and Clarkson, the Warriors have maintained close to 30M in cap room which they plan to use to chase a veteran big to fill out the roster.
"Talk about a true rags to riches tale, if we can land the free agent we're looking for, we'd go straight from bottom feeder to elite in one season. Lillard, Clarkson, Parker, Towns, and a big name free agent would be a great core to build around and we think we're getting close to being competitive." says a source near the action in the Warriors front office.
No firm news yet as to who the Warriors will chase, though some of the top PF/C free agents include Al Horford, Hassan Whiteside. Al Jefferson and Ryan Anderson are also available bigs that could be brought into the line up. Says a rival executive, "With Karl Town's versatility, they could bring in virtually any big to pair with him and I think they'd be able to find some success. Even scarier if they get one of the top tier guys to come in. We think they might be a force to be reckoned with in coming years."
One thing is for sure, the available big men will be hot targets for more than just the Warriors come UFA.
