Indiana Pacers would like to trade
IND 2020 1st
IND 2019 2nd
IND 2020 2nd
for
Seattle Supersonics
SG 52 Malachi Richardson $1,061,600 $1,109,300 $1,157,100 $2,083,937 $3,061,304
I still have tons of cap space so there is no issue there.. I really like Malachi and could be our future SG.. He is what I am picking this years draft but unfortunately he was picked earlier.

Seems like an overpay, but I'm not going to quibble over a future 2nd. Accept

Is this Richardson really worth a first round pick?

I'd sure love to see a protection on that Indiana pick. No guarantees with this current roster, right on the edge of jumping into contention with a great signing or needing to opt for a full rebuild if things don't go well.

He may be a good player but a first round pick? I am going to feel really ripped off if this trade goes through.

He may be a good player but a first round pick? I am going to feel really ripped off if this trade goes through. I mean, he went pick 26 in this 2016 draft, so he's certainly "worth" a 1st, but I feel trading a 1st and two seconds for what was just one 1st is a bit of a stretch. Franchise ruining at face value? Hell no. Franchise ruining if it doesn't work out and Indiana needs to do a rebuild and use that 2020 pick? Very possible. With a lottery protection I'd feel pretty good about this trade, without it I'm a little worried. I trust Reggie to build and maintain a solid team, but in his position I think I'd be pretty adamant about protecting that pick with the current state of his team.

its a 1st for a player picked in the 1st round lol Yeah but the chance it becomes a good pick is too high vs the chance Malachi Richardson becomes worth a top 3 pick, picks this far in the future should always be top 3 protected unless the team has loads of talent under contract that long

reggie is an established GM who has been here since the beginning and been to the playoffs 2 years in a row. do you rly need to babysit him? he knows the risks involved, and he's trading for a player he likes.

I know the risks but I am very positive about Malachi. He maybe the star SG that we are looking for. Besides he is a 22nd pick in real life and many teams skipped him in our draft. He could be the steal in the draft plus I am not that good at rebuilding so I will still build my team to a contender.. you can see it in every league that I have joined so far that I always seeks to win.

I already said, I trust you and know you won't lead your team astray. This isn't baby sitting. I just don't see any reason to trade two extra second rounders to the team that just said they "hadn't even heard Malachi Richardson's name" when they traded for him.. The player's draft value is practically as low as first round value gets, so one first can't be an underpay... getting a single first or a lottery protected 1st and a couple seconds is more than enough here.

We did not plan to get rookies getting into FA for known reasons so we did not scout rookies. That's pretty much about it.

yeah just bc i didnt know malachi, doesn't mean a lot. I hadn't heard of most draft prospects lol I mention you not knowing him because it ties directly into your perception of his value. No way you think he's worth an unprotected 1st and 2 2nds and if someone had offered you a first straight up you probably would have considered it heavily. I just think in this instance, with a brand new rookie that hasn't played a game yet, that giving up a first on the precipice of a potential need for rebuilding (sorry Reggie, but I see it happening), that first should be protected. Every time. We need to start voting on this types of trades as if the protection matters (since it does) so that more GMs start to use it wisely, Reggie included. I'm going to reject, knowing fully that this trade probably won't get rejected by the rest of TC and maybe doesn't deserve to get rejected, because it's the TC's job to fully account for each team's needs and view their trades from "franchise hurting/helping" instead of "is this equal value right now," and when I do that, this trade is just not that good for the Pacers.

I think the fact that Indy is receiving a player drafted 22nd this year versus Seattle having to wait 4 years to see their pick needs to be factored in as well. There is no reason for Seattle to make this trade unless the slim possibility of it being a good pick is there. Wouldn't have a problem with it being top 3 protected but not rejecting it for that reason.

I completely agree with Steve that this should be protected. Also don't like the fact that he was essentially traded for to make a quick return on. Reggie, I would suggest really preparing for a competitive season that year. Start gaining younger guys on contract.
But accept

Hey so this trade is invalidated because Dallas Mavericks actually drafted Malachi Richardson, Miami (who traded Malachi Richardson to Seattle) drafted Ante Zizic.
A roster mistake was made that listed Malachi Richardson on the roster twice, once for Dallas and once for Miami. So this trade is gonna go back, and the trade between Miami and Seattle with also be reversed. Ante Zizic will be returned to Miami.

This makes a lot of sense because I could not figure out why Reggie would give up an arm and a leg for a scrub because I knew my team drafted Ante in the first round.
