I accept. I get the better player for cheaper, over two years. I'm willing to give up the youth, potential, and longer team control of Mirotic for that. Frank Reynolds

I was going to, but West was actually my first target. I like the net value on his contract. Also, check my history with RFAs. Considering what happened with Harrison Barnes, maybe I should adjust my valuation, but I like the value here.

I don't usually second guess Allan but I can't make sense of this one. Mirotic took a step back in his second season but I still view him as a very promising young player under team control for several years. West is a good role player at this point of his career but a role player nonetheless.

West is the better player now, right? So, I both get better and save a bit of money. Next season, Mirotic hits free agency, where I end up paying market value. Suppose at that point Mirotic has improved (and at 25 improvements are pretty minimal) and West declined to the point where they're equally rated. I'm saving something probably 8 figures at that point, for equivalent talent. Plus, I don't want to pay Mirotic market value in the first place. If someone offers more than I think he's worth, I'll probably lose him for nothing.
Also, West is a role player because he decided to become a role player and chase rings. He'd be a starter if he didn't go play for super teams. It's a mere, what, 14 months ago that he was a starter on a team that, when healthy, had gone to the conference final the previous two years.

I'll pass this. Allan knows what he's getting into and one of the most diligent owners we have here. If the deal was the other way around I'd be more critical. I also like the return for Detroit.

Can't fathom the reasoning behind it... West is still better than Mirotic, but he's also 10 years older and probably not going to last beyond the next few. Your team losing two top three players really puts you back a bit and trading solid youth for "win now" pieces in the midst of what could just as easily need to be a mini rebuild just doesn't make sense.

There's not merely two paths, win now and rebuild. I think this move increases the total asset value of my team, regardless of whether that fits some narrative. Mirotic is a discount this upcoming season, and following that will be a neutral or negative asset, paid what he's worth or moreso. West is a huge discount this season. Find me another 66+ player who costs <$4MM. There's two: Giannis and McCollum, in the final years of their rookie deals. Imagine if I replaced West with either of them in this trade. And West will continue to be a discount the following season. He's up there, but what would he have to drop to to not be worth $4.2MM in a $102MM cap? A 57? I highly doubt he drops that much.

I really think David West struggled with the Spurs last year and probably won't even play much for GS.

both these players probably need SW'd. no way david west should be a 66. he came off the bench most of the season last year, and while he was good when he played, he doesnt compare to the level of play displayed by players of similar rating.
for reference... chandler parsons, serge ibaka, kenneth faried are 66.

i also think mirotic isnt very good, but unless he puts up a monster season, he is not going to get an offer that makes him a negative asset.

He came off the bench because he played for the Spurs. And he posted a higher PER than all those listed except Faried. Higher WS/48 than all three. Higher BPM than all three, by a good margin. Higher RPM than all three by a good margin. Ya'll are sleeping on West. Don't make the mistake of discounting him because he's playing for the best roster.
I could see him getting stock watched up a point, in fact.
Mirotic though..

Well, a few reasons would be the sample size is extremely small, the competition is specific, and you don't watch nearly half the players in the league.

You do understand that you can't draw conclusions to make ratings or trade evaluations off of 10 games though, right? Right?!
