Hey guys,
BC and I ran a 12 team 10 category H2H league last year with a few friends and randoms. As per usual, inactivity was an issue for some teams and we'd like to get those spots filled by guys like you!
The original idea was for it to be a 2 keeper league - with a twist. The keeper selection was going to be a bit different in that each player was going to get an "average round" (which is the average of the round they were drafted in and the 2017 ESPN fantasy ranking round) and you would be able to only select 2 players that had a different average round. For example, I drafted CJ McCollum last year in the 10th round and this year he is projected to be a 2nd round player by ESPN. So, his average round would be the 6th round and I would then use one of my 2 keeper selections on him, thus guaranteeing him to my team and forfeiting my 6th round selection. If that doesn't make sense or if I worded it weirdly feel free to ask for further clarification!
Now the issue is that ESPN is somewhat rigid and doesn't allow me to change which rounds the keepers are selected in. Keepers only forfeit your selections in the 1st two rounds. This leaves us a few options that I'd like your input in...
Option 1: Continue with this keeper setup and do a normal online draft (without official keeper selections) but make it very clear which players have been selected as keepers and are not available to draft. The issue with this is if someone accidentally selects someone to their team before the round that they are meant to be kept in by another team. Hopefully everyone can keep track of 24 players (maximum) that can only be drafted by the team that used a keeper selection on them.
Option 2: Perform an offline draft (possibly on a google document?). This would eliminate the issue of the first option, but may take awhile since its 13 rounds and 12 teams. Also, there's the issue of a team not making their selection within a certain amount of time.
Option 3: Completely redraft and discuss if we want to implement a keeper rule next year or not. This may be nice for the new owners of teams to make them their own, even though you will be drafting a minimum of 11 out of the possible 13 players anyway. But for returning owners this may suck because we drafted with the intention of having this keeper setup this season.
Option 4: You tell me!
So comment below if you're interested or would like to weigh on the matter! Obviously only vote on the poll if you're joining the league (I'll know because there will be a wrong number of comments to votes ;) ). Thanks!
