Build the best starting five with a sixth man (in real life) who can win games in regular season and win a 7 game playoff series and eventually a title. Now, I'll put 4 rules here so it's not the same team every time and the thread is boring. ALSO PLEASE USE THE DEPTH CHART FROM ESPN www.espn.com/nba/team/depth/_/name/atl1. You can only choose ONE franchise player overall from any team (that I will designate per team) 2. You cannot choose any 2 player from the same team (1 player per team) 3. You cannot choose any player from the GSW or CLE (to make it more fair and legitimate) 4. You cannot take a player that plays one position and convert him to play another position i.e. Lamarcus Aldridge switching from PF to C, and James Harden and Westbrook from PG to SG Franchise Player per team Atlanta Hawks: Dwight Howard (center) Boston Celtics: Isaiah Thomas (point guard) Brooklyn Nets: Brook Lopez (center) Charlotte Hornets: Kemba Walker (point guard) Chicago Bulls: Jimmy Butler (small forward) Dallas Mavericks: Dirk Nowitzki (power forward) Denver Nuggets: Emmanuel Mudiay (point guard) Detroit Pistons: Andre Drummond (center) Houston Rockets: James Harden (point guard) Indiana Pacers: Paul George (small forward) Los Angeles Clippers: Chris Paul (point guard) Los Angeles Lakers: D'Angelo Russell (point guard) Memphis Grizzlies: Marc Gasol (center) Miami Heat: Hassan Whiteside (center) Milwaukee Bucks: Giannis Antetokounpo (point guard) Minnesota Timberwolves: Karl Anthony Towns (power forward) New Orleans Pelicans: Anthony Davis (power forward) New York Knicks: Carmelo Anthony (small forward) Oklahoma City Thunder: Russell Westbrook (point guard) Orlando Magic: Nikola Vucevic (center) Philadelphia 76ers: Joel Embiid (center) Phoenix Suns: Eric Bledsoe (point guard) Portland Trail Blazers: Damien Lillard (point guard) Sacremento Kings: Demarcus Cousins (center) San Antonio Spurs: Kawhi Leonard (small forward) Toronto Raptors: Kyle Lowry (point guard) Utah Jazz: Gordon Hayward (small forward) Washington Wizards: John Wall (point guard) Example PG Russell Westbrook SG Demar Derozan SF Andrew Wiggins PF Blake Griffin C Al Horford 6th man: Bradley Beal

PG Mike Conley SG Avery Bradley SF Kawhi Leonard PF Paul Millsap C Rudy Gobert 6th man: Blake Griffin Defense wins championships ;) Thats pretty much the team I had in mind. x_x PG Mike Conley SG Avery Bradley SF Kawhi Leonard PF Paul Millsap C Rudy Gobert 6th: Demar DeRozan Edit: Can't help myself. I will go with the twin towers and Millsap to 6th man. PG Mike Conley SG Avery Bradley SF Kawhi Leonard PF Kristaps Porzingis C Rudy Gobert 6th: Paul Millsap That team would be unreal in terms of fit I think.

PG - Chris Paul SG - Khris Middleton SF - Otto Porter PF - Kristaps Porzingis C - Myles Turner 6th - C.J. McCollum
Basically as good of a "no glaring weaknesses" team as I can put together with the given rules. Chris Paul surrounded by 4 shooters with defensive skill/potential ranging anywhere from acceptable to great.
edit: Everyone has good percentages from 3 and from the line. The floor spacing would be incredible, and a floor general like CP3 to run the offensive engine, they'd get open shots or open drives to the basket on every play. I could see rebounding being a little bit of an issue, but I think they've got the skill to do fine in that regard, just that KP and Turner would have to communicate well about who stays in the paint on any given possession. CP3 improves perimeter defense immensely for any team, so giving him two rim protectors with the agility to run some serviceable defensive sets on the perimeter, and two solid defensive wings capable of switching or holding their own in iso sets, I think they'd be capable of dominating on the defensive side at best, or at worst holding down the fort to let the offense do it's thing. Short of including guys like Dray/Love/Klay, it's about as good of a "small" ball line up as you can make.
Also, forgot to mention, C.J. McCollum gives an unfair scoring edge of the bench.

In the other hand, who needs defense if you can outscore anyone.
PG J.Harden SG CJ McCollum SF J.Parker PF K.Porzingis C N.Jokic 6th man: D.DeRozan
coach: Mike D'Antoni
edit.. had to change Brook Lopez to Jokic to fit the rules

Not necessarily for my team, but yes in this specific line up... Porter gives some extra scoring, extra rebounding, and better percentages. Technically his DRtg is better too, although I don't consider him a better defender.

PG: Giannis Antetokounmpo SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist PF: Jae Crowder C: Nikola Jokic 6: CJ McCollum
Maybe not the best team, but tried really hard to get one around Giannis. Would've loved to have had Khris instead of MKG to help with shooting and not lose much on defense, but rules suck and MKG needs love too. The plan on defense is to have KCP guard 1s, MKG on 2s, Giannis/Crowder on 3s and 4s, and Jokic on 5s. Super switchy lineup, a few solid shooters, decent passing, great rebounding, great defense, great potential. CJ gives us the scoring punch we need off the bench.

I was thinking maybe it's better to build around AD rather than Kawhi. Which team would you rather have?
Team 1: PG Mike Conley SG Avery Bradley SF Kawhi Leonard PF Paul Millsap C Rudy Gobert 6th man: Blake Griffin
or
Team 2: PG Mike Conley SG C.J. McCollum SF Jae Crowder PF Anthony Davis C Rudy Gobert 6th man: Blake Griffin
