Chicago Trades
60 Dion Waiters $5,138,430 $6,777,589
for
2018 1st (GSW) 2020 2nd (GSW) 2018 Phi 2nd 59 Tyler Ennis $1,733,880 $2,666,707 $3,784,058 55 Josh McRoberts $5,782,450 $6,021,175 total 7,516,330
I accept, Waiters has been playing well his season but I never really liked him as a player. I am starting to rebuild around Okafor and I want as many picks as I can.

This trade looks really bad. Looks like Chicago is getting highway robbery for an overrated ball hog. Dion isn't worth the one first round pick let alone two seconds and two players. But on the odd chance that dion keeps up the pace he's at there's a chance he grows into an elite scorer. For that reason I accept

The 2nd rounders are given because im taking on McRoberts contract

I accept. I think the trade is imbalanced, but the Warriors are still viable. They have Gobert and Towns locked down forever. They have other good contracts like Shump and Crowder and their guys on rookie deals.
Waiters, like Dipo, seems like it's not an ideal contract because they'll have to be paid this offseason. But that's fine for the situation GSW is in. They're already going to be paying Gobert a max. And I'm sure the plan is that they'll be paying Steph the max after bringing him back with BR. At that point, they're at the cap. So, as we've seen with JR Smith and Tristan Thompson in Cleveland, it doesn't really matter if they overpay them at that point. Just having their rights is good enough to bring back a competing team.
Yea, their draft picks are starting to dwindle, but that's what you do if you're pushing to make a competing team.

I don't feel like this is quite as easy to reject as I'd like, but this is an absolutely enormous amount of value to give up for Dion Waiters. And Dion is a known team killer (brought down the Cavs and made KD leave OKC) so that's another FACT that makes this trade rejectable.
No, in seriousness, axe the 1st and this is fine.

It's a reject for me. I think there is a lot better value out there for that pick than Dion Waters. If it was known to be at the bottom of the draft, I'd probably be okay with it, but there's no protection on it and a variety of circumstances could lead to GS needing that pick

I'm gonna accept this. Echoing Allan's logic that GSW can gamble an asset worth 5% of his team value, because why not?
I do it all the time.
If GSW was a barren team, and that pick was like 25% of his total team value, like some teams in this league are, then the deal is clearly rejectable.
I think looking at % of team risk when it comes to rejecting deals might be a good way to go about these decisions...

a bad trade on me but i need to fill my depth - playoff contention and a deep bench can probably help me sign free agents.

value wise, 25 year old dion waiters is at least a role player on a title-contending team. such a role is usually the ceiling of a late 1st round pick, and the average 2nd round draft pick won't ever amount to that. dion himself was a 1st round, 4th overall pick - which reinforces the fact that there's little certainty in the nba draft.
Chicago has the leverage in this one since Kwame is trying to win-now, and I think it's a very fair price to pay to increase his own odds at winning a championship this year. So Yao Ming accepts

I'm going to accept. I think it's an over-pay, but I think this is an excellent trade for Chicago, and while GS is losing, there is some chance that Waiters makes this trade worth it, and they're not giving up SO much that it's going to hugely impact their long term outlook.
I have to admit though, pretty surprised to see Waiters bring in this much. Curious whether Kwame shopped around the package he's sending.
Hope it works out for both teams, good luck y'all!
