Current Rating: 61 Deserves a decrease. He's rightfully being left behind in the Lakers' youth movement, being left out of the rotation the last 7 games. 10.1 PER, -2.6 BPM. 46.9 TS%, and 7.1 AST%. (All below Spencer Dinwiddie BTW).

I do agree that Deng should get a decrease, but I don't think it should be a big one. The Lakers know where Deng's skill level is at, and they have nothing to play for this season. Their main goal is to get a good solid look at their young guys to see what they have, and if they're capable of logging big minutes and be productive. If the Lakers were in contention, I think Deng would get at the very least 15-20 minutes/game, and all of those stats would be higher.

I'm pretty sure all those stats control for minutes

They do. When a player is in Deng's position (veteran on rebuilding roster), they'd have little motivation. In the NBA, players need to push themselves in order to play at their best. Deng's potential at his best this year is speculation, but he doesn't need to go all out with the youth movement (career averages 34.7 min/game). Looking at his monthly splits this season, his TS% and ORtg are highest during the months that he plays more minutes (December, January), which could imply that he plays better when he plays more and with purpose

gotta agree with Yao here, esp since I think he is capable of producing good enough to stats to warrant a better rating than what he is now if he were on a team not named Lakers. maybe a small decrease.
