Current Rating: 57
I suspect I'll come forward with a few more of these for other young guns as the season progresses, but my #1 priority is making sure that this beast has a rating that is somewhat indicative of his actual skill levels.
Right now he's a 57, which correlates to just below a league average player. I doubt anyone reading believes this is valid. He deserves an increase.
"He's only played three games!" chime the naysayers.
Obviously with such a miniscule sample size under his belt, no one can be expected to vote him as if he's performed like an All-Star player for a season. However, his current production through four games sits at a staggering 17 points / 10.8 rebounds / 7 assists, and he's claimed his rightful spot as the first player in this year's rookie class to achieve a triple double - something he's tailor made to do as a 7 foot point guard with elite rebounding skills.
"But the sample size!" shout the haters...
F--- Sample Size. This simulation should mimic real life as much as possible, and in that regard a 57 rated Ben Simmons will not suffice. Even if Ben Simmons plays the next 78 games producing exactly HALF as well as he's currently performing, he'll average 8.5 pts / 5.4 rbs / 3.5 asts, which is almost undeniably above league average production. As the #1 overall pick in the 2016 draft, Ben's potential to come into the league doing EXACTLY what he's doing from day one was never in question. After sitting out a year and having time to work out some kinks in his game and grow accustomed to the speed of the NBA game, claiming that he's more likely to halve his production for the remainder of the season than he is to improve FURTHER on what he's currently doing would be disingenuous at best... It's time to acknowledge that this man is destined for greatness (potentially All-Time Greatness) and make sure he's rated appropriately to tackle this coming season from game 1 like the beast that he is.
