Current Rating: 82 Who knows what he'll look like when he gets back, but it won't be an 82. No player deserves an 82 anymore. And with a nagging injury, he might not be the same player he was for a long while.

And with a nagging injury, he might not be the same player he was for a long while. That is Michael Scott right there resisting to say "That's what she said" in a meeting with the CEO.

While I agree that probably no one deserves an 82 anymore, I don't know why we'd stockwatch him know under an assumption that he won't look like his former self when he returns. It isn't like he'll have some profound impact on this season here before we get a chance to evaluate what he might look like over the last few games of the season, so even if he is dramatically overrated we don't really need to make this SW now... lots of uninformed votes based on pure speculation that will inevitably lead to a new SW when we DO know how he'll play when he returns...

Let's suppose he returns for a game or a few, and is subsequently sat again. Maybe even a 10 game sample. Not an absurd situation. And it doesn't change what we know now. And few more games shouldn't change whatever our vote would be today.
But with only 15 games left in the NBA season right now, that guarantees that John has him for the playoffs. I, for one, don't think there should be an 82 Kawhi in the playoffs here.
If he does get nerfed a ton (which I don't think will happen) and ends up returning healthy for the final 13 games plus a playoff run, and he looks like himself, then he can get re-SWed, probably before he even returns to the sim. But more likely, I think, is that he'll get modestly nerfed and underperform what even that rating is.

No player deserves an 82 anymore. Plus, I don't get that. I mean, how much can things change after a height rating is adjusted? LOL. Plus, I don't know if it is fair argument. I mean, since Sonics got 3 top 5 players in the league they are by far (and it is not even close) the most affected team by it.

Yes. Then why no player deserves a 82 anymore? :P

Height is the biggest factor in the overall. All the height ratings were squeezed towards the middle. Hence, the overalls were squeezed towards the middle.
Think of it like a bell curve. Before, the right tail reached out to 82 for generationally good players (82 was insanely high even before the change). Now, it reaches out to a lower number.

Nah, I think the previous comment was more accurate.

What led to the decision to factor height as the biggest means to a players overall ranking? Would that not favor big men/wings? Is Russell Westbrook at 6’3 not as good, if not better than say, Paul George at 6’9 under these conditions? Someone help me understand here lol?

Not our choice. That's how the developer of the sim engine made it. I believe he got his coefficients by regressing against PER.

But there's not really a benefit. The overall doesn't directly affect the performance of the players. The individual skill ratings do, which also happen to determine overall. It's certainly possible that a 63 overall player is more productive in the sim than a 67 overall player.

I think we can assume now that he can return to the previous top 5 player form. And if not we can still stockwatch again. But yeah top 5 rated players are now: LBJ and Curry 79, Harden 78, Giannis and KD 77, so definitely he needs to be decreased. Giannis/KD level seems for me to most reasonable.

I meant I will not reply back, LOL. Can't give any promise though... Do you think Kawhi leonard should be rated higher than Lebron etc? You know the sonics aren't the only players that had decreases right? AD was a 79 last season, is having a career year, and is a 75 this season.

I just don't see any sense in a stockwatch thread when we'll get a chance to evaluate how he looks when he returns, prior to our playoffs, and then have a SW based on that. Right now, a stockwatch for Kawhi is literally just 8+ blind swings in the dark toward what his new rating will eventually be.
