NYK sends: 2018 SEA 1st TOR sends: 2018 TOR 2nd 2019 CLE 2nd I accept! I've got so many draft assets, I ought to consolidate them. I think that having three first right near each other in SEA, POR, NOP is gonna be sexy. And, potentially a great group to package and move further up. And even if I don't find a deal I want to move up, looking at my roster, it'll be possible to clear enough spots to sign all my firsts. Allan Houston

I accept. I move back a very small amount of spots, where to me the marginal difference is very small. In exchange, I get back an additional (though bad) draft asset.
But more importantly, the 1st has a cap hold. I'd rather have the space provided by the 2nd round pick, which will almost certainly be the best 2nd round pick.

You can take that "almost" out of there. We've got tanking down to a science. We had Jawun Evans play 48 minutes once.

Irl, 2nds don't have cap holds because there's no exception to sign them. You either need to use space or another exception, often minimum or a small part of the MLE if you want more years.
I'm not sure exactly what your question is though. They're not FAs at all.

Aren't they restricted FAs? :| And even if they are not restricted they should have a cap hold due to BRs. They don't have cap holds during the year they are drafted. A 1st rounder has their 1st year as a "cap hold" on the roster page for that year's free agency. A 2nd rounder, however, needs to be signed in the thread, so there is no cap hit. Youre just confused which year he is talking about, he wants to get rid of the cap hold for this year (when they are drafted), not when they are in RFA. 2nd round picks have a cap hold in RFA, their QO, just like a 1st rounder. Also, I accept this trade. While Allan is very correct that the difference in player between the 1st and the 2nd is low, and that he'd rather have the cap space, this trade is still also a win for Toronto. To Allan that cap space is valuable, to Toronto, the additional year of control from a 1st is valuable. Win-win

Yes, I thought he meant something else.
But during last off-season, I am pretty sure 1st rounders didn't count against the cap either.
