Once your RFAs are signed they can’t be traded until December as far as I know.

The rule says “Free Agents”. I remember it being discussed last year but I don’t remember what was decided.

The rule says “Free Agents”. I remember it being discussed last year but I don’t remember what was decided. It's all built into the same mechanism that makes RFA's tradeable when IRL they'd be considered expiring contracts. QO's are extended automatically, contract offers are one time messages with no negotiation allowed, and it's virtually impossible for a team that wants to keep their RFA to lose them since they can match any deal, so there is functionally no way for collusion to take place. As such, they can be traded after the trade deadline/through the offseason when they'd normally be "expiring" and are still available to trade immediately after signing/matching. The only way the December 15 trade rule is in effect for RFA's is if they sign an offer sheet with a team, they can't be traded to that team until December 15th.

From Offseason Free Agency Regulations:
"Sign and Trades
Expiring players cannot be traded and re-signed players cannot be included in submitted trades until at least December 15th of the following regular season. A matched contract offer for a RFA does not count as a re-sign, however the player cannot be traded to the team whose offer sheet he signed until at least December 15th. For this reason Sign & Trades cannot happen."

Sorry to hijack a new block post, but no, it’s not like that. Until you actually sign or match Lavine (won’t happen for a few days), you can only trade him with his QO salary, and receive back 125% of that QO. After he is signed, you can trade him to any team (except a team whose offer sheet he signed/you matched) in a salary matched deal for his new contract. If you want to trade to the team whose offer sheet you matched, you have to hold on to Lavine until whatever day corresponds with the December 15th date in the sim.
