I just had this idea. Anyone have interest of doing a fantasy draft of all-time NBA players during the off-season? And then in the end we vote who has created the best possible team. If Billy agrees, winner could get a complimentary 2nd?
Let's see how many GM's there would be interested in doing this? And then we can also decide how many rounds, etc.. Once we get number of GM's I can randomize the starting order and set-up a new thread for the draft itself.
Snake draft format. All possible NBA players in history can be taken.
For example:
Team A - pick 1: Tim Duncan
Team B - pick 2: MJ Team C - pick 3: Kobe
Team D - pick 4: Lebron
Team D - pick 5: Bill Russell
Team C - pick 6: ... Team B - pick 7: ... Team A - etc...
GM's in: 1. Theodore Duncan
2. Ron Artest 3. Stuff 4. DJ Jazzy Jeff 5. Paul Pierce 6. Ben Wallace 7. Pete Maravich 8. Scal
9. Billy King 10. Kong 11. Allan
12. David Robinson 13. Yeezy 14. J.Cole 15. Red Auerbach
16.

I'm in.
Are we going all the way back or should there be a cutoff? Not many people alive have an opinion on George Mikan or Bob Cousy. We could do it by decade each offseason. I am down either way. I'm just spitballing.

It would need to be at least starting in the 1979-80 season when the 3-point line was implemented. x_x

The 3 point line was implemented just a few years after the merge. In any case, I am in. You should put a contestants limit though and reject those who are currently taking too long to pick in the football league (lol) or else this will never finish. 20 participants sound like a decent number.
Edit: or 15. x_x

Since I wouldn't qualify for a 2nd round pick you should give me number 1 pick to make this fair for everyone else.

Cool. We are 11 now. I think something between 15-20 could be nice. Then with 10 rounds we go down to 150-200 top players in NBA history. After the first 20-30 all-time greats it starts to get interesting.
I was wondering what to do the with old guys. Post merger seems like a good cut-off

Another idea. Maybe 16 teams and instead of one direct vote for all teams, do a bracket in the end until there is one winner?
Team 1 vs Team 16, Team 2 vs. Team 15, etc..

This is about putting the best possible team though right? I mean Battier is not a top 200 player but someone might want him in his team as a glue guy. :D

I would say definitely the team build should make sense. And also having backups for each position should matter. Like if you just pick BPA and end up with 7 guards and 3 wings, you gonna have a bad time against a team with Shaq and 9 good roleplayers

We still need 5 more persons for that though and the ones who will be active probably already signed up. We should limit it to 12 and have 4 groups of 3 teams with each team facing each other. Then, you make elimination rounds with the 4 top teams. The tiebreaker could be total votes in favor.

I think just 4 more GM's should be doable to get to 16, maybe not everyone has seen this yet.
How about it?
@xavier0717
Edit.. or new guys?

All time means EVERYONE available. The merge cut off is a good idea, but it shouldn’t get to the point of narrowing down a select group of players. Besides, where you rank a player is subjective. For example, I probably consider Bird a top 5 player, where as most would say top 10... not much of a difference to a casual, but it’s an entire argument for a ‘basketball head’...

This is accounting for each player's absolute prime? Does their entire career matter or pretending we're taking a player for one season during their peak WAR (or whatever metric) season?
