Hey guys,
I've modified some of the ratings category league-wide going forward to get our stats more in-line with the NBA. We've had some high scoring games lately, and some abnormally high passing numbers. All the formulas for the ratings will be adjusted by this amount in the future. This will lead to some players that were fringe on the edge of attributes losing attributes, but they won't be getting them under the new formulas anyway. These very small nerfs in some categories has led to more realistic stats in line with real life.
Here are some screenshots to illustrate the changes.
Here is a link to the shooting range %s for the current NBA year:
stats.nba.com/teams/shooting/
Here we were before, the overall team stats:
This is our shot locations ranked by percentage for "shooting at the rim":
As you can see, the "average" team shoots about 62.5% at the rim currently in the sim. In real life according to the NBA stats page linked the real life NBA shoots about 61.5%.
Here is the new team stats after the nerf:
Here our median team shoots 61.9%. Closer to real life.
Here now is the current sim stats ordered by LowPost%:
In our sim the median team shoots 47%. In the NBA shooting sats linked above the median team shoots just 40% from the low post. This is a big discrepancy, and I nerfed inside hard.
New stats after nerf:
Now we shoot just 45.9% in the median from the lowpost. This could still be nerfed considerably, but there is probably some discrepancy in the fact that our ratings take into account shots from 3-10 feet, and the NBA shooting site only considers 5-10 feet, which probably would naturally have a lower rate.
Here our current sim stats ordered by midrange:
As you can see our midrange median is around 38.7% while real lifes is around 41.8%. I actually increased the FG rating league wide for this season.
The boost increases our midrange to around 39.6% for the league median team, putting us closer to real life.
And now the biggee, this is us right now ranked by 3p:
The median team shoots 38% in our league right now. The NBA average is 35%. Our median attempts is 34.5 per game, while in the NBA its 31.3. Not a HUUUGE difference but it accounts for our point difference right now. Because of this I nerfed 3p pretty hard.
Here is the team stats after the nerf:
Putting our median at 37.2% and our attempts at 30.2. Which makes our teams "points from 3 pointers" as close as I can get it. I can't adjust the rates that these players take them without also effecting the %.
Passing, DIQ, OIQ PSS, and DRB were also slightly modified to try to lower other rates (mostly passing) that differ from the regular league. These were the best small adjustments that will make our box scores slightly more realistic and hopefully cap some of those crazy scoring games. However, BBGM always has a ton of variance in it so you'll always see great and terrible performances by players and teams!
Inside -10
DNK -5
FG +5
TP -15
OIQ -5
DIQ -15
DRB -10
PSS -10
Cheers. The new file with the new ratings is uploaded under the folder as 35new.json
