D720 2020 MOCK LOTTERY
1
ANTHONY EDWARDS, SG (GEORGIA)
CLIPPERS
STATS: 19.1 pts / 5.2 reb / 2.8 ast / 0.6 blk / 1.3 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 19.0 yrs / 6-5 / 225 lbs / 6-9
Comparison: A bigger Victor Oladipo
What do you get for the team that needs everything? The Clippers have some promising 2019 draft picks in PJ Washington,Matisse Thybulle and Darius Bazley along with lottery pick DeAndre Hunter but they are yet to find a franchise guy. With the first overall pick, they go for the most star potential and pick Anthony Edwards.
Anthony Edwards has the chance to be a special player. Of course, there are question marks, but Edwards projects to be, at the very least, a high-profile scorer at the NBA level given his athleticism and shot-creation ability. At best, you're looking at a future All-NBA player who should thrive in the NBA style at the coveted wing position.
One could argue that the Clippers could go for LaMelo Ball or James Wiseman but Edwards, an explosive 225-pounder who just turned 19 and averaged 20.3 points during SEC play possesses too much star potential for the Clippers to resist.
He did have low shooting percentages (40.2 percent / 29.4 percent from 3-point range) but a lot of that was due to the workload he had on his shoulders at Georgia.
With his impressive physical profile,Edwards can grow to become a defensive stopper too.

LAMELO BALL, PG (ILLAWARRA)
HORNETS
STATS: 17.0 pts / 6.8 reb / 7.6 ast / 0.1 blk / 1.6 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 18.9 yrs / 6-7 / 180 lbs / 6-10
Comparison: 6-7 Jason Williams
With Zach LaVine , RJ Barrett and Jaxson Hayes on the roster, the Hornets draft LaMelo ball as he has the best court vision in the draft and provides playmaking. Defensively a LaMelo/LaVine backcourt who get scorched but the upside is too high to pass on.
His size, vision and basketball IQ make him a drool-worthy guard prospect coming off of a strong (albeit brief) performance in Australia's NBL, but there's clearly bust potential given his poor shooting, lack of finishing ability and general disinterest in defense. In a relatively weak draft, Ball has too much upside to pass on at No. 2 -- but he's far from a sure thing.
He averaged 17 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists in Australia last season. He will have to improve his shooting (25 percent from three-point range) and his shot selection, but Ball has the tools to develop into an All-Star caliber point guard.
Prediction: Stuff trades KD ,Butler and all his picks for LaMelo in a desperate attempt to get all the Ball brothers.

JAMES WISEMAN, C (MEMPHIS)
CELTICS
STATS: 19.7 pts / 10.7 reb / 0.3 ast / 3.0 blk / 0.3 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 19.4 yrs / 7-1 / 237 lbs / 7-5
Comparison: AD lite / Hassan Whiteside
At 3, it was a toss up between Toppin and Wiseman for the Celtics. Wiseman was selected due to his immense potential and concerns about Toppin’s ability to play the 3 with Horford Aldridge and Hachimura on the roster.
Wiseman boasts an impressive physical profile and put up some great numbers. However, that was only a 3 game sample size. At the very least, he projects to be a rim runner and a shot blocker. He figures to be a great roll man in the pick roll and has shown flashes of mid range touch.
Defensively, he does protect the rim well but his awareness is a huge concern especially while defending the pick and roll. He can get a bit jumpy and is foul prone.
Wiseman is agile for a 7-footer but in this era of floor spacing and small ball he needs to develop a good outside shot in order to contribute. His passing out of the post and IQ needs to develop too in order to make full use of physical tools.

DENI AVDIJA, SF (MACCABI TEL AVIV)
PISTONS (VIA IND)
STATS: 9.0 pts / 4.7 reb / 2.0 ast / 0.7 blk / 0.7 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 19.6 yrs / 6-9 / 215 lbs / 6-10
Comparison: Danny Granger / Doncic lite
After drafting Sekou Doumbouya in the 2019 draft, the Pistons select another Euro prospect in Deni Avdija. Avdija is big enough to play PF but he has the skills of a PG. He has advanced passing instincts and an extremely high basketball IQ which should give him staying power in the league.
His lack of athleticism may be a cause of concern with him having to settle for a lot of mid range shots due to his inability to get to the rim. A big red flag is his poor free throw shooting. He shoots just 58.8% from the line over 59 games which is alarming and brings up concerns about how well he can shoot in the NBA. His outside shooting is streaky too so becoming a consistent shooter would go a long way. His time in a professional league should surely help him in the NBA.

KILLIAN HAYES, PG (RATIOPHARM ULM)
HEAT
STATS: 11.6 pts / 2.8 reb / 5.4 ast / 0.3 blk / 1.5 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 19.1yrs / 6-5 / 187 lbs / 6-8
Comparison: Taller Jay Williams
With Frank Ntilikina looking like a bust, the Heat select another French PG in Killian Hayes in hope of finding a long term solution at the PG position. It also helps that their GM Billy King seemed to really like Hayes.
Hayes is a lanky Point Guard who is a great passer. He is pretty creative too. He is fairly experienced and productive for his age since he has played 72 pro games. Hayes presents three-level scoring potential. His shooting is still developing but he has shown improvement. He is really comfortable operating the pick and roll which shows he could be the lead guard in the league. His 87.6% shooting from the charity stripe gives hope of his shot translating to the next level.
He is average athletically both in terms of burst and vertical explosion. Against aggressive ball pressure, he struggles and he has turned the ball over on 25% of his possessions. Defensively, he has the size to defend 1 and 2-guards but his defensive intensity has not been consistent at all.
With the Heat not looking to contend immediately, Hayes will get time to develop and refine his game which bodes well for him.

ONYEKA OKONGWU, C (USC)
PISTONS
STATS: 16.2 pts / 8.6 reb / 1.1 ast / 2.7 blk / 1.2 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 19.7 yrs / 6-9 /245 lbs / 7-1
Comparison: Bam Adebayo / Tristan Thompson +
At 6, the Pistons go for upside in Okongwu. Okongwu is by far the best prospect defensively. Although he is undersized to play the 5, his 7-1 wingspan makes up for it. He is a fantastic rim protector and is mobile enough to step out on the perimeter on switches. This defensively versatility ensures that Okongwu will be at least a role player in the league.
Offensively, he is a vertical spacer due to his hands and leaping ability. He is also a tremendous offensive rebounder due to his strength, quickness and bounce. He is a great post scorer and uses spin moves and his quick first step to get buckets in the paint. His outside shot has not developed yet but his 72% FT shooting is good for a big and hints at a chance for future shooting development.

OBI TOPPIN, PF (DAYTON)
CELTICS (VIA UTA)
STATS: 20.0 pts / 7.5 reb / 2.2 ast / 1.2 blk / 1.0 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Sophomore / 22.5 yrs / 6-9 / 220 lbs / 7-2
Comparison: Stronger Drew Gooden / Otto Porter
With vets such as Jrue Holiday, Lamarcus Aldridge and Al Horford on the roster with an apparent desire to compete, the Celtics opt for the most NBA ready prospect in Obi Toppin despite some positional concerns of their roster.
Toppin is a proven scorer who should be able to stretch to the NBA 3-point line, he can be a beast in transition as a rim-runner and in the half-court as a playmaker out of the short roll.
Defensively, He's not an elite shot-blocker but will certainly affect things on that end with his length, and he's a mobile enough defender to not get killed on switches. He is not a good rebounder which might raise concerns about his ability to play as a small ball 5 in the league. While playing the 4 he gets beat by faster forwards.
His ceiling is limited due to his age but Toppin has the highest floor in the class and should be able to produce right away.

TYRESE HALIBURTON, PG (IOWA STATE)
KINGS
STATS: 15.2 pts / 5.9 reb / 6.5 ast / 0.7 blk / 2.5 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Sophomore / 20.5 yrs / 6-5 / 175 lbs / 6-8
Comparison: Better MCW / Dejounte Murray
With 2 talented bigs in JJJ and Mitch Rob and a few promising wings in Reddish, Trent Jr. and Huerter, the Kings go for a PG here in Haliburton.
Haliburton put some nice stats before going down with an injury. He has good size and length which allows him to guard either guard position. His IQ is really high and has tremendous vision in the pick and roll and throws creative outlet passes. He is a career 43% shooter from 3 and good from the line despite his unconventional mechanics.
His creation off the dribble has not been great and will not provide a ton of value scoring-wise. He tends to avoid contact which leads to a low free throw attempt rate. His light frame limits him on both ends.
The Kings will look for a PG and they might prefer Hayes in all likelihood but he has already been picked by the Heat. I guess it can’t be a D720 draft without the Heat picking the player the Kings wanted?

ISAAC OKORO, SF (AUBURN)
SUNS
STATS: 12.9 pts / 4.4 reb / 2.0 ast / 0.9 blk / 0.9 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 19.6 yrs / 6-6 / 225 lbs / 6-9
Comparison: Faster Justin Anderson / Justise Winslow
Historically the Suns have had great defensive players like Bledsoe and MKG and recently they have drafted Okogie and Annunoby too so Justin really seems to like such defensive wings. Isaac Okoro is another such wing.
He is regarded as the best perimeter defender in this draft class. He was one of the most impactful defenders at the college level. He has All-Defense potential due to his excellent lateral quickness, amazing technique and great intensity. His defense should give him staying power in the league.
Offensively he finishes well inside the pain and shows some playmaking potential. Outside shooting is a big concern since he shoots a terrible 29% from 3.
Okoro projects to be a role player who will bring energy and hustle to the team. His offensive game will take time to develop but defensively he seems ready for the league.

DEVIN VASSELL, SF (FLORIDA STATE)
KNICKS
STATS: 12.7 pts / 5.1 reb / 1.6 ast / 1.0 blk / 1.4 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Sophomore / 19.9 yrs / 6-7 / 194 lbs / 6-10
Comparison: Michael Redd / Kerry Kittles
With Kyrie and Otto Porter Jr. coming back from injury and the emergence of Christian Wood, the Knicks should be playoff bound next season. Hence, they try to go for Devin Vassell who has one of the highest floors in the draft.
Vassell is a 3 and D wing which is very valuable in the modern NBA. He has nice length and is agile and fluid. He hits 41.7 % from 3 on 168 attempts in his college career. He has been disruptive on the defensive end while defending Point Guards too. He has shown some shot creating potential while showing tremendous improvement as a ball handler.
His shooting mechanics are unconventional but they have produced results so far. He is not explosive and hence does not reach all the way to the rim or to the free throw line often. His feel for the game is questionable and lacks awareness on some occasions.
Vassell is probably the best wing defender after Okoro in this draft and his outside shooting in college presents hope of him blossoming into a 3 and D wing at the NBA level.

AARON NESMITH, SF (VANDERBILT)
SPURS
STATS: 23.0 pts / 4.9 reb / 0.9 ast / 0.9 blk / 1.4 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Sophomore / 20.8 yrs / 6-6 / 213 lbs / 6-9
Comparison: Alec Burks
I wasn’t sure what kind of a player would be the best for the Spurs, so I am going with the best shooter in the draft in Aaron Nesmith.
Nesmith has some decent upside due to his size and length which should help him on both ends of the floor. He shoots an unbelievable 52% from 3 while being a career 83% FT shooter which indicates that his shot should translate well to the next level. He can hit jumpers in a variety of ways off movement, screens, pull-ups and difficult spot-ups with a hand in his face.
His passing and shot creation is not anything great. Despite having a good physical profile, he did not make a major impact defensively and got beat off the dribble. Played only 14 games due to a stress fracture in his foot so he has a small sample size.
Expect Nesmith to produce value immediately through his shooting.

PATRICK WILLIAMS, PF (FLORIDA STATE)
BUCKS
STATS: 9.2 pts / 4.0 reb / 1.0 ast / 1.0 blk / 1.0 stl
CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 19.0 yrs / 6-8 / 225 lbs / 6-11
Comparison: Dante Cunningham / Paul Millsap
The Bucks have their backcourt set for years with Trae Young and Donovan Mitchell. They have a thin frontcourt and they address that by drafting combo forward Patrick Williams.
He is versatile defensively since he has a powerful frame which allows him to switch onto bigs while his length and athleticism allows him to guard smaller players too. He has shown some flashes of touch shooting off the dribble from mid-range, as well as stepping into spot-up 3-pointers confidently. He also hits 84% of his free throw attempts which shows that his shot should grow.
He is one of the least prolific scorers at this point in the draft and was not particularly efficient. His intensity comes and goes frequently.
Patrick Williams is the youngest NCAA prospect and due to that he has considerable upside.

CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 19.5 yrs / 6-5 / 188 lbs / 6-7
Comparison: Jamal Murray
With the league’s worst record, Clippers go for upside in RJ Hampton.
Hampton is a quick explosive athlete who is versatile offensively. He can play both on and off ball. He attacks the rim with his explosive first step. He can hit some shots but he is streaky.
Defensively, he needs to work a lot on his technique. His free throw attempt rate can be better too. His shooting needs to be more consistent to help his offensive game.
Hampton is talented and has led USA to victories in age group tournaments. His professional experience should help him too.

CLASS/AGE/HT/WT/WG: Freshman / 20.3 yrs / 6-3 / 184 lbs / 6-3 1/2
Comparison: Jerryd Bayless
At 14, Memphis go with best player available in Cole Anthony.
Anthony is a score-first guard who is aggressive and confident. He is a great open-court athlete. On the defensive end, he has quick hands and feet while engaged and shows willingness to fight through screens.
He has not shown much in terms of facilitation. His shot selection needs to improve and his shooting needs to be more consistent. His wingspan limits his defensive potential.
Anthony could thrive as a bench scorer for the Grizzlies initially and could step into the role of starting PG if Wall has some injury concerns.
