Didn't we make a rule about being able to lift contracts of players with career ending injuries? I know IRL the Heat could do that with Bosh right now but they haven't choosen to. But I might like to!

But I might like to! The rule is that when a player retires, their money comes off the books (real life is not so generous). I'd consider tweeting at bosh to stop being a selfish asshole and announce his retirement. |

How come we can extend RFAs but not UFAs? Only applying extensions to rookie contracts keeps disruptions to a minimum for now. Extensions in a sim league like this is a new and original concept, and could really hamper the offseason in unforeseen ways if extended to all players, and possibly lead to a lot of headaches. RFA only extension keep it simple and doesn't change the bottom line much since most RFA's that are getting extended would be matched. I wanted to keep extensions as a wrinkle, as opposed to a full fledged feature. If it continues to be used, and works well, we could consider extending it to other player pools in the future. |

Thanks. ^^ If I understand your question correctly, when you sign an extension it just adds the extended contract to the end of the deal, it doesn't erase the current contract. For an RFA you can send in a bid but not after they have signed an offer sheet, at that point you may only match. |

Question about the 125% rule in trading
Is the remaining cap counted as "outgoing salary"
example trade:
Team A has 9 million cap space Team B is over the cap before and after
Team A trades player 1 (5million) to Team B.
Team B trades player 2 (15 million) to Team A --> Team A will be 6 million over the cap after the trade
So the actual salaries (5mil vs 15mil) are not in 125% rule, but if you include the existing cap space they are (9mil+5mil vs 15mil).
Is this trade ok?

Someone clarify the Luxury tax for me! I’ll give a scenario, if a team is going into free agency with a payroll of 50 million, and their remaining cap room is around 50 million, can they exceed the salary limit as long as they don’t go over the luxury tax, or do they have to stay under the given cap limit?

You can go over the salary limit, but only with exceptions, such as the Mid-level Exception (MLE), which is only available to certain teams, bird rights (BR), which allow you to re-sign a player who has been on your roster for 3+ seasons, or the minimum exception, which allows you to sign anyone to a minimum contract.

It says that you will be penalized 10% of your salary cap for every season you're over the luxury tax. Is there a set date for when you're either over the luxury tax or under - which you would then receive the 10% penalty? Or am I missing something?
Because I may be in luxury tax territory after free agency, but I suppose it would be possible for me to trade and get under the tax shortly thereafter. If that were the case, would I receive the 10% salary cap penalty?

Why do we only have buyouts once every three years? Seems goofy to me because it's not linked to an NBA rule, and imo it hurts rebuilding teams. If buyouts were more easily and frequently executed, it would probably balance the economy of the league. Everyone benefits because cap tied teams can more easily move heavy contracts, and rebuilding teams will be more likely to take them on for some assets.
I think this would be a good one to have some kind of open forum/vote on.

The way the NBA does it seems fair. There's a strong correlation in season to season in standings. The worst team last year is probably still going to be pretty bad.
